Birthstones

There are lots of websites on the Internet with articles on Birthstones, and I came across a couple the other day of particular interest: the American Gem Society talks about the origin of birthstones dating back to the breastplate of Aaron, which contained twelve gemstones representing the twelve tribes of Israel. It also has a useful page describing the healing powers of birthstones. The second website About Birthstones describes the biblical account of the gemstones in the breastplate of the high priest.  Not being particularly religious and not always believing what I read, I dug out my childhood bible and there in EXODUS, 28, The garments of the priests, it describes the breastplate, how it was made and what it was made from including the twelve stones: sardius (carnelian), topaz, carbuncle (garnet), emerald, sapphire, diamond, ligure, agate, amethyst, beryl, onyx, jasper.
Stones are renowned for having healing powers, and in the American Gem Society article it says that according to legend one should wear the relevant gemstones for that month to heighten its healing powers.
I have just finished making and photographing these lovely new Birthstone bracelets. They are pretty and delicate worn individually, but being a person who loves jewellery to make a statement, I think they they should all be worn together! What do you think?
